Jacht Founder Becomes CoJMC Interim Dean
Updated: Apr 20, 2018
Jacht’s very own director and founder, Amy Struthers, was recently named interim dean for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).
“Jacht is extremely excited about the announcement. Amy is an active ally to students and continuously works to keep our best interests in mind,” the members of Jacht’s leadership team said. “We can’t wait to see what she brings to the table as she continues to inspire CoJMC students, as well as the current students in Jacht.”
Since joining the college’s faculty in 2003, Struthers brings years of experience to the table. She has taught various advertising courses throughout her career, and most notably founded Jacht, a student-run advertising agency serving real clients. Struthers is excited to use her experience from Jacht to take on her new role.
“One of the things that’s really joyful for me is seeing Jacht recognized as a model for how experiential education can happen; how we can grow something in an entrepreneurial and startup kind of way,” she said. “I always wanted to position Jacht as a cross-campus incubator, someplace where students from all different majors can come and create things.”
Along with creating opportunities for students, Struthers wants to establish a culture of trust and positivity as interim dean, that will result in an innovative curriculum revolved around storytelling. She wants every student to feel a sense of excitement and joy when they walk into the classroom each day.
“We’re ready to really come together and have a good time, and figure out how we offer the best education and experiences to our students around this whole changing media landscape,” she said. “It’s a great time to be interim dean.”
Struthers will continue to serve as Jacht’s director for the remainder of the semester.
